What I’m doing now

Satine Luna quintet

The Manipulation of Satine (Book 2) is out and is currently available at my shop. I’m now revising and cleaning up Book 3, slated for release in April.

Giving up on tracking progress

Right, so it turns out I write much more readily and prolifically when I’m not tracking hours or word count. I wonder if removing the administrative overhead means I can slide into and out of a writing session more fluidly. I no longer have qualms over “just getting a few words down” or “squeezing in five minutes”, perhaps because there’s no quantification pressure taunting me afterwards.

Verdict: I like this. Poo to tracking. Maybe it’ll be worth doing again someday, but right now, I’m faring better without it.

Project Orellia

I have not worked on book 5 lately, but it has been on my mind a lot. I think I neglected how entwined this story would be with everything that happens in the earlier books, because of what happens in the background (who goes where, who’s with whom, etc.). I’m tempted to just start phase 3 of writing, which is to go over all my drafts, map out the plot points and then rewrite/revise from the very beginning.

This is perhaps the messiest, least hope-inspiring writing process I’ve ever had for a project, and yet I am now in love with the world and characters. Creative efforts continue …

Who am I? 👩🏻‍💻

G’day, I’m JL. I write love letters to the future, most often in the form of romantic science fiction and fantasy (also called “science fantasy”). From here, you can check out my books and stories and keep up with my work via Dot Club (my nerdy, slow, low-noise email newsletter).

By the way, this is a Now Page. Here's how to make your own.
